From the islands of New Zealand comes Fredericks Brown, the musical collaboration of vocalist Deva Mahal and keyboard player Steph Brown. They are renowned for their energetic live shows, and beautifully crafted songs.After initially meeting on the festival circuit in New Zealand, where both were key players in their respective cities, they moved independently to Brooklyn in 2007 and met up again to form Fredericks Brown.Between them they have worked with Kanye West and Common, have billed with acts such as De la soul, Jurassic 5 and Alice Russell, and have performed in venues throughout Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, and Vanuatu.Fredericks Brown fuses the musical heritage of both musicians; Deva, daughter of legendary blues musician Taj Mahal, draws on her rich soul and blues roots. Steph's sound is rooted in the organic Pacific sound of her native New Zealand. Their music places an emphasis on their role as storytellers; they craft songs using imagery and narrative that demand the attention of the listener.
