We are a 200 watt (ERP) non-commercial radio station that serves an area containing over 2.5 million people and is part of the 1 radio market in the United States, New York City. The station operates with a paid professional General Manager and an Assistant General Manager, and students, alumni and community members volunteer as departmental directors and on-air personalities.
The studios of WPSC are within Hobart Hall, on the campus of William Paterson University. The station started in 1968 as a closed circuit station. In 1988 the station began broadcasting, as North Jersey's Independent Radio, to an audience of over 2 million listeners. With over 90 On-Air Personalities, the radio station has some of the most diverse music programs in New Jersey. The station staff includes students of WPUNJ, WPUNJ alumni, and members of the community.
In April 2008, WPSC became re-branded as WP 88.7 FM and adopted a new slogan, Brave New Radio. The re-launch of the station co-incided with a major equipment upgrade for the studios which meant that WP 88.7 FM would be broadcasting 24/7 and would never again be off the air. It is hoped that webstreaming on the internet to the global audience will soon follow.
