Jonny:
in August 2002, i picked up the album that changed my life: Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill. then i started writing uncontrollably. by December i had 60 songs written, lyrics only. i needed an instrument.
i joined my first band early 2003 as the drummer and sole lyricist. i had no idea how to play. before we could even begin anything, we dissolved that summer.
i got my first electric guitar is April 2004 and fiddled with it for months, off and on, actually trying to teach myself later that year. i would put it up and then pick it up every few months, but didn't push myself to do anything that put me where i am today.
it wasn't until 2006, when i had a band without a lead singer with a couple of friends. of course, my playing was limited to several Hole songs: Violet, Doll Parts, Beautiful Son, & Softer, Softest.
then i put it down again.
after doing it off and on again and not really going anywhere, i received an acoustic guitar early 2007 and set to trying to learn everything all over again. it's much harder to play, took some getting used to, but i finally managed to strum something that sounded very similar to covers of other people's songs.
in March 2008, Xander & i started this band.
Dead Pink:
in March, i (Jonny) was trying to find a song. just jam until i got something i liked. it finally happened and i wrote Angel all by myself and then played it for Xander later. he liked it and we recorded it in April and put it up on this myspace.
for awhile it seemed like that was the only thing going on, and i thought we would do a cover or two and self-release it as a single in May.
well, we struggled creatively, vocally and musically with the Hole/Nirvana covers we were working on and dropped them. that's when i randomly went into something and we wrote So What For? unfortunately, the song acoustically does not represent the way we hear it - with a full band - but we're unable to bring that sound everyone right now.
after So What For? we finally found a cover we didn't struggle on and had little difficulty getting down. however, we decided to put the first take of With Every Heartbeat up because we want people to be astounded by the improvements we've made through practicing, reworking and rerecording that song.
after many changes to the tracklisting, we've finally settled on 5 songs for our EP, which is going to be released in the first part of 2009. the versions on our MySpace are very rough demos, but as we're recording, we're going to put a few finished songs on there.
