About Me

Three Chord Renaissance could plausibly be comprised of three elements:
The Voice – sprung from an evergreen branch in a remote campground in Ontario
The Words – creatively crafted, spun out or spewed out, (depending on the mood) from experiences lovingly embraced or alternately vexed about in raging paroxysms
The Guitar – well, they say all you really need to know are three chords …’nuff said?
I used to sing whenever and wherever I could. In my childhood days, my harmony singing-campground-buddy Cathy and I would climb up to our designated branches of said tree and belt out our tunes for anybody or any other living thing within earshot.
As I got older I stumbled upon the natural method of dealing with heartache, angst and general discontent; writing poems. Granted, those that were born of the raging paroxysms are the really interesting ones.
Though I bought a second hand guitar when I was 19, it was many years later that I actually learned to play the 3-chord progression while singing and breathing at the same time. And while I can get my hand around a bar chord or two, I maintain my status as a simple “3-chord guitar girl’, hoping to astound and impress the masses whenever I throw a fourth into the mix.
With a love of singing and a yearning to perform in front of real people, I ventured out to the open mic stages with cover tunes where I hoped to meet some musicians, perhaps start a band or find the Elton John to my Bernie Taupin and start creating songs. However, it never happened.
After living in Ontario for 6 months, I returned to Vancouver on March 4 and must have caught something in the air over Winnipeg. On March 11, 2008, I sat down with my guitar and wrote my first song. Between then and August 1 I wrote all of the 17 songs I currently call “my own”.
Are they any good? Well, everything is potentially good to someone. Maybe you’ll like the sound of my voice, maybe you’ll like the way I make G6, FM7 and E7 go together, or perhaps you’ll like the one about how my tampons let me down.
Come and check us out sometime.
