About Me

This is the lovely, talented and vivacious Pam Wells, host of the Sunday Classics each Sunday from 11am 'til 4pm on Houston's R&B Leader...MAJIC 102.1 Pam Wells is a broadcast veteran with an extensive comprehensive radio background.In her twenty-year career, she has served as the receptionist, music director, producer, air personality and program director at several major market stations With literally an ounce of radio knowledge, heart full of desire and a mustard seed of faith, Pam Wells got her radio start at MAJIC 102 in 1978 as the receptionist. However, she had a dream, and everything within her believed that anything was possible if you were willing to work for it. And work hard is what she did.Eager to learn it all, she set her sights high, invested her energies and was soon named Assistant Music Director at KMJQ. By employing her commitment to quality and strong work ethic, within a few months the assistant handle was removed and she was became the Music Director for Majic 102. During her tenure, Majic 102 became one of the most progressive Urban music stations in the nation, sporting double-digit ratings in an era when it was unheard of for "Black" radio. Ultimately Pam was named the first female Music Director for the Amaturo chain, providing music programming direction for three stations across the nation.During an era when the word "urban" was used more commonly in reference to neighborhoods than radio, she found herself an active part of the Jim Maddox methodology for "Urban Radio"… find the best, program the best, be the best…give the people the best and only the best. The success of Majic 102 proved to change the complexion of radio across the nation. She left Houston in 1980 headed to the Windy City as Music Director for WBMX-FM Chicago.WBMX was ready for a change…and Pam Wells was the "change agent." So impacting was her style of music blend that it wasn't long before the "guys across the street" began to woo her. Within six months, Pam Wells became began serving as music director at WGCI-FM in Chicago. After her stint in Chicago, she moved on to WHRK in Memphis as the voice of the Midday. Nevertheless, as much as she was accomplishing in the area of programming, there was still another challenge ahead. Pam wanted to get back to programming. K-97 proved to be a place where she could incorporate her programming skills, without her longtime mentor and remain on the air. She did so successfully for five years.A strong irritant during her career was the perception of the female personality as a "giggling sidekick." Her personal goal was to prove the strength and intellect of the female personality and empower other women in the industry to do the same. As God would have it she got her chance, as morning personality at WHRK-Memphis, Pam yielded #,1 double-digit ratings and a loyal audience by bringing wit, information, compassion, thought provoking topics and her "God-given ability" to relate for five years.The next stop in this whirlwind career was KACE-FM in Los Angeles as Program Director. Los Angeles was a different challenge; it was there that the meaning of gaining a "tenth" of a point took on a new perception. It was also in Los Angeles where her life began to take a turn for the worse. Battling a cocaine addition, Pam Wells returned to Houston in 1992 to pursue a life change. Since that time her has life has come full circle, she has dedicated her life to spreading the message of recovery and never misses an opportunity to share her testimony with others.By God's grace, she has overcome this life-threatening obstacle and all the while kept forging forward. For the past seven years, she has worked as a social science researcher concentrating her efforts in the area of program evaluation and statistical analysis for government funded programs. One thing is certain, she never misses an opportunity to tune in to the changes in the industry, and she has returned to her first love...MAJIC 102. As the host of Sunday's MAJIC Classics, Pam Wells shares with her Houston audience her music expertise and a lust for living life to its fullest.If you were to ask Pam what her mission in life is today…. She would say "To show some sister, somewhere that no matter what you've been through, no matter what the obstacle, no matter who says you can or can't, no matter who counts you out…God says you're more that enough. Take that and run with it!"{}
