When the Day is Done -Solo Piano

About Me

The album "When the Day is Done" is Markus’ first CD and a musical summary of a life playing late-night gigs in the city of Miami.Born on September 22 1980, Markus grew up in Vienna, Austria where he received a classical music education at an early age. At the same time his interest and ability in athletics grew and Markus traded his music scores in for a pair of sneakers. Upon finishing high school, he was recruited to play college basketball in the US. While in the States he discovered his passion for Jazz and moved to Miami after the completion of his University degree. There he was able to study under legendary pianist Mike Gerber and became one of the most sought after players in town. The CD is a reflection on the moods and emotional colors of this lifestyle- introspective and narrative at the same time...

Influences: Life influences me...every day there is a fresh start and a new beginning - so essentially everything is constantly changing. Hence my draw to this improvisational form of art. It is the ultimate expression of freedom and passion. I try to listen to as much music as I can- jazz, classical, anything. Michel Petrucciani is probably my biggest musical influence. In addition other influences are: Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Barron, Bill Charlap, Eldar, Art Tatum, Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner, Monty Alexander, Bud Powell, Duke Ellington, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Bobby Timmons, Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, Marcus Roberts, Hank Jones, Stephane Grapelli, Renee Rosnes, Wayne Shorter, Mike Gerber, Jim Hall, Cedar Walton, Michel Legrand, Frank Sinatra, Andre Previn, Kenny Werner, Walter Davis Jr., my brother Max, friends, collegues, fellow musicians...
