I started playing guitar my freshman year at Rutgers in New Brunswick New Jersey, quite a place to be in the late 70's and a great place to meet people/musicians that helped me along with my guitar playing and performing. I loved the Beatles back then, still do but as the 70's rolled on and the chances of a renunion faded, I started looking at other artists. By the end of my freshman year at Rutgers I met a girl and fell in love. She had been playing guitar since she was like 7 years old and had a small body Gibson acoustic with a satin finish, okay her name was Yasmin, very sweet girl! She taught me alot about playing. I was only playing about 6 months when we met and she was always very supportive, thankyou Yaz! We were sittin in her dorm room and she put on Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush" I heard the first song "Tell Me Why" and that was it for me. I told her, that's the type of music I want to play! Within a half hour she was playing it and I was writing the cords down on a piece of paper. Neil Young was on my brain and the winter of 79-80 was when Rust Never Sleeps and Live Rust came out. I was in a friends dorm room, a picture of Neil playing his old Les Paul with his hair blowing was up on the wall. Live Rust was playing, I think it was Powderfinger playing...we had just smoked and had a few beers that night. I looked at the picture of Neil on the wall and without thinkin just said " Man he is a genius" Need I say more? ...that was 27 years ago and Neil has never let me down!
