Cross Purposes

Cross Purposes is a group of musicians that have been sharing their musical gifts and love of God with others for over twelve years. Five of the nine members have been together from the group’s beginning. The band was started to facilitate a contemporary worship service and developed into a group that writes and arranges its own music, and whose music has reached far beyond the doors of the church where they began. They have taken their musical witness to many different locations, ranging from small churches to 15,000 seat arenas. Just some of the places they have played include colleges, civic functions, churches of all sizes, festivals, the Virginia Beach Pavilion, the Hampton Coliseum, and First Night of Williamsburg (for the past 8 years).
Several of the musicians are accomplished songwriters and have written a large portion of the group’s music. These songs are among the most requested from their audiences, and they plan on releasing a CD of their original material within the year.
Cross Purposes is more than just a musical group; they are family. Members that have moved away still remain in close contact and still come to celebrate special occasions. After their weekly rehearsal, during prayer circle, they always give God thanks for the gift of each other and the privilege of using their talents to praise the Lord.
They come from many walks of life: A field hockey coach from William and Mary, a technician/designer, a church program director, a certified dental assistant /clinical coordinator for a dental office, a college professor, a business owner, a teacher, a music director, and an associate for staff & community development. Everyone looks forward to rehearsal and often refers to it as their oasis in the week. When you are a part of one of Cross Purposes concerts, it’s obvious that they love what they do and they love the Lord!
