We are The British Robots. We write pop songs. We trade instruments on stage. We’re about melodies and harmonies in smallish rooms with green tea.
We've been together for a little over two years, living and playing around Adelaide. We’ve made lots of friends and had a busy year. We earned second in South Australia for 2008’s National Campus Band Competition. We plastered posters around the city for Adelaide’s short-lived Popsicle collective. Our single, Trickster, was featured in the upcoming film Coffin Rock, which we played in, and we recently recovered from our Rudd-funded whirlwind tour of the east coast, with fellow Adelaide popsters We Grow Up. Brisbane's Rave Magazine quizzed us about our genre juggling. And Triple J’s Dom Alessio said he loves our duelling vocals.
They might be duelling because we live in each other’s pockets. After all, all of this has become from the five of us working hard together. We’ve been lugging around this huge recording device. We’ve been laying down tracks in Chapel Lane Studios. We’ve been driving up the A1 highway to mix with Cat and Chris from Explosion Proof Motor. All this work will soon manifest in our self titled debut EP.
We’re not perfect. We can’t nail grant applications, we’re too introverted, we’re not super attractive, and we can’t write impressive bios. But we like to make big plans. We want to see and play to the world. We want to let our lives be about this thing we’re creating.
