It’s 1998, you are Ian Henderson, a computer / synthesizer wizard from Ireland with an unhealthy penchant for 80’s Synth-Pop .Your parent’s living room is your studio where you construct and produce original music pieces with ease in a style that is out of step with the boy band and Britpop music of the time. You meet Mark Power, a trained singer with a natural ear for melodies and harmonies. You work together on six songs in your first week. You call yourselves In Utopia, you get a two single contract in a Germany that’s going through a recession, and they release a single “Only Lovers Do” without a video. It is not promoted but oddly begets a cult following in America and Europe. You sign a new deal with another record company. New name EDEN and new single “Let It Flow”-the song tops the most requested song on some radio stations and even enters the charts with no video. The record company decide you should work with other musicians; you travel as a “real band” recording an album that mirrors this. The label gets shut down. You sign another record deal. The album, “Desolate Shores”, takes 3 years to record due to lack of commission and is released with no promotion. You feel like your dreams are over…You go back into your studio in Ireland with Mark and decide to record an album in your own style, an album you would buy yourself full of killer choruses and hooks. You want the whole album to sound and look like an EDEN album should. You realise the music scene has changed and your updated fun eighties sound may be just the ticket. And there you have it, the history of EDEN! The new album “ELECTRIC!” is now Set for release in 2009. One minute into the duos opening track, the epic “Independent” and you will immediately find yourself immersed in a feast of beats, beeps, chunky bases and vocals. As the dramatic phases open up to mechanical beat, Mark sings the story from their side “We made the record. Did you release it? Did you promote it?” The album is full to the brim with don’t – bore- us-bring-us the-chorus tunes, tackling heavy subjects and yet joyfully embracing uplifting nostalgia filled tunes. The forthcoming single “If I Was A Pet Shop Boy” is indeed a nod to their idols but the song dryly slams the notion that talent equals fame and visa versa, something EDEN know only too well.
