No. 2 Position: Defensive Back Ht: 6'ft Wt: 215 Hometown: El Sobrante , California.Previous School: Contra Costa College High School : Pinole Valley High SchoolKenny Edwards, a junior defensive back for Humboldt State University football, died in a drowning accident on Christmas day 2006 in West Sacramento, while trying to retrieve a remote-controlled boat that he had bought his younger brother for Christmas. He Was 23 years old. Remembered as a "great kid" and a promising student athlete who had the respect of everyone who knew him, teammates and friends described Kenny as a hard worker, who was always trying to improve himself and motivate his teammates. He is the Son of Besheba Cook Reynolds and was born in San Francisco.He Embraced his role as the Jacks' third safety and brought a positive attitude to practice everyday. HSU head football coach Doug Adkins, described Kenny as someone who "did everything you asked him to do" He was in college to get an education. He Was there to play football, too, but his education was the top priority." Kenny was a talented individual certain to achieve greatness. He would have a senior in 2007/2008.Edwards finished the 2006 season with 28 tackles (13 solo, 15 assisted), 3 tackles for lost yardage , 1 quarterback sack and a fumble recovery that he returned for 30 yards. He also returned a kickoff 11 yards. He was 1st team all-conference at Contra Costa Community College and 1st team all-league and 2nd team all-Bay Area at Pinole Valley High School.He was majoring in Industrial Technology (construction management) at Humboldt State and worked for Kiewit Construction Company in building the new physical education Facility , scheduled for completion in 2008. When not on the field or in class, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family.In Memory of Kenny Edwards, his family and friends are establishing the Kenny Edwards Jr Scholarship at Humboldt State University. The Scholarship will recognize a motivated student athlete committed to education, community and family. Kenny understood that talent could only take him so far.
