Adrian Javon Atterberry better known as Young Vet was born on Febuary 21, 1991 in Kalamazoo, MI. Although he was born in Kalamazoo, he has lived most of his life in Benton Harbor, MI. Vet was not always a musician. His older brother Rodney was one of many influences on his rap carrer. Vet has been rapping since the age of thirteen, but he wasnt too much into music then. He didnt get serious about rapping until the age of fifteen. Most peolpe look at music as a way to loosen up and have fun, but Vet looks at music as a way to lyrically express himself. He says, "Music is not just lyrics plattered on an instrumental. Music is an art. An art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody and harmony."
Before Young Vet, Adrian has had many stage names ranging from his initials to his swagg such as: Double A, Icy A and Swift, but those are a things of the past. Vets' first song that he actually spent time to write and self produce was entitled "Mob Up". It was recorded in his living room, but he has come a long ways since then. He is still writing his own music. He doesnt too much produce his own music any more though, but he has insights that he will start back some day. He is now recording in his own studio that he funded himself.
Vet says, "Living in Benton Harbor has its pros and cons, both evenly balanced." He addresses the advantages as "constant obstacles". He says this because there are so many obstacles in life that you have to overcome and with his place of residence, Benton Harbor, being such a small town, it is evident that everyone will know your business. And he believes if u can overcome obstacles and critics, it will do nothing but enhance you as a person. He says the disadvantage is since Benton Harbor is so small and rarely known it is hard to get noticed. Despite of the common obstacles, hatters and disadvantages he still loves his city.
Even though he has been rapping for about four years, it wasnt until last year, 2007, he started freestyling. Before then he has tried freestyling, but he said he prefered writing, because he just plainly thought he was better. But soon he became better at freestlying along with writing. He has been in numerous rap battles with various artist, and just like reality he has won some and lost some. He says, "Winning is good, but you more out of losing." He believes losing battles motivates you to push yourself and try harder at what you do, and winning just raises your confidence. He says confidence is important too, but what is confidence without motivation? He answers, "conceited".
In the begining of 2007, he recorded his most famous song "Do It How U Wanna". He says, when he wrote it, he didnt think it'll accomplish all that it did. "Do It How U Wanna" was liked by almost everyone he knew. He even had dance groups ask for a copy to dance to in a talent show. "Do It How U Wanna" was also ranked at number 19 in Hip Hop on Soundclick.com's music charts.
Shorty after the success of "Do It How U Wanna", Vet released another hit single entitled "Stupid Fresh". It did accomplish as much as "Do It How U Wanna", but it did extremely well too. He actually wrote "Stupid Fresh" before "Do It How U Wanna", but decided to released them differently. After the success of his two club bangers he decided it time for a more serious track that focused more on positive vibes. With that im mind he and a cousin of his, Isaiah Bass, recorded a track entitled "Imma Live My Life". "Imma Live My Life" was a song about simply living your life no matter what you encounter. In his verse he says he focused on his father not being a big part of his life and how it affected his life. "Imma Live My Life" was ranked number 391 in Hip Hop on Soundclick.com's music charts. Vet and Isaiah better know as T.O. are still writing and recording tracks together.
Prior to "Imma Live My Life" he dropped a track entitled "Lets Make Love" with his childhood friend Darius Adams who is a singer. This song was ranked number 609 out of 10,000 other songs just like it.
After "Lets Make Love" Vet stopped recording for a while. He says he didnt plan to, it was because his studio was down. At around the same time he was going through family desputes and other things. With all of the bad things at hand, Vet used them to form them into something good. Which turned out to be a song of course. This was like no other song he recorded. It was entitled "Fuck The World". It was basically about the cruelties that occur in everyday life around the world. But one of the verses he kind of gives u what life would be like if he was never born. He also spoke about suicide. "Fuck The World" did better than "Stupid Fresh", "Imma Live My Life" and "Lets Make Love" combined. He says it is probably the only song that he has not let his mother hear.
After releasing "Fuck The World" he laid off of recording and writing again. He says he really didnt have a reason to, but there were jus more important things in life such a school.
Shortly after the break from the studio he was back at work. This time he was focused on collaborations with other local artist such as Curtis B, DP and The Clay Boyz. He and Curtis B has one hit single together entitled "Wait For A Minute". He and Curtis B has many unfinished tracks also. He Has another track with DP entitled "Imma Star". He has many more collabs that are written, but unrecorded.
After his collaboration spell Vet was back in the studio alone, well atleast he thought he was. One day he was recording a song about relationships, "Im Moving On", originally it was a solo track, but it just sounded better with a singer on the hook, and Darius Adams better known as Young Voice happended to show up at the studio. Shortly after the release of the new track his music page was deleted. He says, he was highly upset. It didnt make him want to stop rapping, but it made him kind of unable to write songs. This is his newly created page and he hopes this one isnt deleted.
Right now Young Vet has many written and recorded songs unreleased. He says he's not releasing anything new to the internet world until his first album and mixtape is complete.
