Joe Chalmers

About Me

Joe Chalmers is a singer/songwriter who resides in the Ottawa Valley area. His influences are deeply rooted in folk and traditional Celtic music. He is a storyteller who explores themes varying from a shotgun carrying woman saving the man she loves, to the dream of a young man who walks through hell alongside the devil. His songs are expressions of love, loss, and adventure which are remarkably autobiographical, if only through parable. His first studio album, “Long Goodbyes,” is an independent collection of stories and in depth character studies. He is a firm believer that music is meant to be pure and simple, and his debut is exactly that. He has an honesty about his songs that is not common in much of today's popular music. His voice is not polished but it is sincere. His lyrics are thoughtful and intriguing, but accessible.
Joe began playing guitar at a young age and has had many transformations over the years. He found his true passion in an old Yamaha guitar that was kept under a bed at his grandma's place. The Sunburst beauty continues to keep rhythm to his many stories and is key to his instantly identifiable sound.
He has dabbled in screen writing and is part of the creative team behind an independent TV project in the North Bay area. He has also lent some music to the project.
Joe Chalmers may not be a household name, but he is a true artist who gives everything he has to his music. His songs are heartfelt and priceless in their attempt to create a music that lends itself as easily to campfires as it does to record.
Here's a clip from the CD Release at JRs. It's obviously rough quality, but I just thought you guys might like to see it.
Thanks,
