About Me

Mr. Mar knows a lot about adaptation. Reared in Jackson, TN, a small town that he says is “cool, but a little slow-paced,” he moved to Pontiac, MI, located just outside of Detroit as a teen. Quickly adapting to a much faster lifestyle, Mr. Mar’s innate flexibility helped him adjust to his environment. His rap style is no different.
“Growing up in different places just made me stronger because I’ve been able to go to a lot of different cities and I don’t have that straight country mentality,” Mr. Mar, who founded his own label, Platinumized Records in 2000, says. “I’ve experienced a lot of different things coming up so I’m not small town minded.”
Currently based in Atlanta, his network is indeed vast. He’s worked with everyone from Memphis vets, 8Ball & MJG and Skinny Pimp to Nashville’s Haystack, to Houston’s Lil Flip and Atlanta’s Slim Calhoun throughout his career, easily navigating between sounds and topics with his distinctive take on life.
“I’m trying to motivate people,” the 20-something year old says in his signature slow-churning drawl, before adding, “and I’m trying to get paid.”
His upcoming album (distributed by Select-O Hits through Country Boy/Platinumized Records), Me So Fly is a spinning narrative of his life and experiences. Featuring 8Ball & MJG, Skinny Pimp, Mr. Mike and Thorough (of South Circle) among others, the album is a combination of street-ready production and lyricism. The lead single, “Stackin’ Money” featuring Ball & G, is a solid representation of the overall direction of the project.
“Me So Fly has got something for everyone,” Mr. Mar, who says Too Short, the Geto Boys and NWA were early influences, insists. “There’s a little funk and a lot of laid back fly shit on there. “It’s gonna touch more fly people, people with a little swagger about themselves.”
Scheduled to drop in September 2008, Me So Fly was preceded by his showmanship on mixtapes, where he worked regularly with celebrated producer, Shorty P and Skinny Pimp. In 2003, he gained attention when his single, “Pass the Drank” featuring Lil Flip received regional airplay.
Now ready to showcase his perspective to the world, Mr. Mar is confident his music will hit home for a lot of listeners.
“Music is an opportunity to express my lifestyle,” he says. “That’s what it’s about.”
