According to statistical studies done at the end of 2005, an estimated 330,000 people were living with HIV and AIDS in the Caribbean. Some 37,000 people were newly infected during 2005, and there were 27,000 deaths due to AIDS and this trend has yet to decrease. Over 2.5% of the adult population is infected in countries such as the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, and Haiti. Only Sub-Saharan has higher prevalence rates among adults.In fact, the steady rise in AIDS related deaths is threatening to the well-being of the Caribbean's economic and social infrastructure while wiping out families and leaving children in under-staffed orphanages. It is important for our organization to help those affected and infected by HIV/AIDS reach the full capacity of life by raising monetary donations for medication, orphan care, education and prevention.
