About Me

Q & A, to make it easier!
Q. And you are?
A. Melbourne writer/composer and performer amongst other things.
Q. Instruments?
A. Several, and I guess you could throw the phrase ‘multi-instrumentalist’ at me if you had to. Mainly piano and guitar, though the mandolin, mandola and whatever resides on the shelf gets a guernsey.
Q. What are your favourite possessions?
A. Hmm….My Custom 335, a laminated lap steel from my late grandfather, Pink Floyd box set, Santo & Johnny LP, and a Dutch spoon.
Q. How would you categorise yourself?
A.Erm…well I don’t really fit into one box, I have so many. I’ve recently fit a bunch of ideas into a few small boxes which is taking form of an eclectic but otherwise stylistically ‘stamped’ album. Pretty honest work…should be finished around September/October ’09.
Q. What’s on the horizon?
A. I’ve recently composed a classical score for a luxury car company for their new Hybrid car which will air in the UK and other spots around the world. That was a lot of hard work, crazy hours but sensational fun. I also perform in a band; guest on the odd album or even spontaneously pop-up live in various capacities. On top of this, the project album (yet to be named) as mentioned before is slowly taking shape.
Living and breathing music – can’t fight it, may as well run with it!

Influences: Old people who play like they've lived, old songs that make me want to live to play. Anything interesting: new sounds, old sounds, great melody. Blues from way back, simplicity and brilliance of players like Santo & Johnny, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, Peter Green. Dark rides with Pink Floyd, long trips with Penguin Cafe Orchestra, cheek of Johnny Cash....and newbies that rehash these legacies.
Sounds Like: A musically cluttered mind strangled by a web of influences from yesteryear and present, trying to chronicle rampant spews into something coherent and ultimately understood. It may sound like a choir of many at times, a piano sinking into the mud saved just in time by a flock of strings or a melancholy mantra clearing road for an uplifting ditty. Or whatever you hear.
