SPECIAL RELEASE: "Apollo"

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing either means to celebrate a giant leap for mankind or to celebrate a hoax. Fact is: we simply don’t know the truth and so people tend to fall in three belief groups. The first accepts that NASA successfully landed on the moon six times and that 12 humans have actually walked on the surface of the moon.

Group number two, though far smaller, says that we never went to the moon and that the entire thing was faked. But what about the third one? The third group falls somewhere in between and postulates that humans did go to the moon but what we saw on TV and in photographs was completely hoaxed.
It was more important that astronauts be seen to be walking on the moon than actually walk on the moon and so the Nixon administration wanted to stage the moon landing in advance. Images of Neil Armstrong’s walk on the moon on July 20, 1969 were shown to the world through the lens of master film-maker Stanley Kubrick and shot on the soundstage of Kubrick’s landmark film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.
After all, either the camera or the government is lying, or maybe both?
It’s not easy to tell and so the conspiracy continues.

WHO IS NORMAN FAIRBANKS?
"The concept of modern media has become a good-looking but highly intransparent arboretum aiming to manipulate your precious brain in each and every single moment. But there is also a real enjoyment within the endlessly absorbed stream of pre-designed information because it unintentionally provides a rich playground for specific audio experiments and ultimately a true medium for new art forms.”
Norman Fairbanks is an audio concept art project officially started in 2003 with the mission to freely alienate, process and melt artefacts from the vast panopticon of American mass media with found noise, selected field recordings and specifically generated electro-acoustic elements to a) investigate new tonalities in sound and b) create a context-free, unbiased, neo-expressionist audio witness and reflection of contemporary American culture.
While constantly moving forward with "One American Second" as conceptual audio art, the project will always try to integrate a substantial portion of unusual sources [i.e. custom made soft- and hardware or other unconventional tools] into the setup, in order to provide a unique sound experience.
Since subliminal cultural sampling and field recordings are another essential part of it all, the project will additionally ensure to provide steady growth for "The Big American Mistake" audio library, a database containing every single piece once found or created for one of the concept releases, with the idealistic goal to store a [never completed] subjective audio image of America, painted by bits and bytes on a harddisk.
