Emerging from an already bustling music scene in Bergen County New Jersey, Defamed is unlike the multitudes of indie and hardcore acts saturating the area. Combining elements from electronica, ambient and hip-hop music, Defamed incorporates hip-hop and techno-esque tones and song structures that border genres such as hardcore, indie, rock and even folk. “There’s been many influential artists who have mixed genres and ideas; but I feel like there are so many fusions that haven’t been experimented with yet,” singer/producer Michael Mazzeo muses. Singer/producer Ryan Gilpatrick adds, “We came from so many different musical styles, Defamed is a huge departure from where we came from. It’s awesome that this musical melting pot actually works.”With the release of their first mixtape on October 30, Defamed hopes to break into the mainstream with their unique sound. If there is one band that aims to smash the boundaries separating conventional genres, its name is Defamed.
