NIAMH VARIAN-BARRY 23
Cork-born Niamh has been studying music since the early age of 3! Starting on violin, and also taking on viola, piano and guitar. Classically trained, she also has a huge talent and gra for trad music, which is rooted in her father's side of the family, banjo player from Castlegregory in the heart of Sliabh Luachra. Her flair for improvisation and experimentation brings a freshness to the music, and a genuine heartfelt and passionate approach to Irish music. She graduated from the Cork School of Music in 2007 with an Honours Bachelor of Music, majoring in performance and music technology, also getting the opportunity to study orchestration, conducting, harmony and counterpoint composition with some of the leading lecturers in Europe. Currently studying for her Masters in Performance, she also has an avid interest in Baroque music and contemporary music. This amalgamation with Claire Sherry and Mark Nagle promises to turn heads and ears, and go far from unnoticed!
MARK NAGLE 26
Mark was born in the rare oul' Dublin in 1981 playing music all his life to date!
He also comes from a musical family background. He started off on piano, continuing onto guitar, bass guitar and tinwhistle. This training gives him a rich insight into the tunes and creating the perfect accompaniment style. Like Claire and Niamh, he has done a lot of touring abroad in places such as Germany, Austria, Belgium, Wales, Scotland, England, France, Holland. Then in 2007, I met two amazing people who as well as having amazing and funny personalities, also have serious musical talents! So LASRACH was born.
CLAIRE SHERRY 24
Dublin born fiddle player Claire Sherry always had a love for music. She is an accomplished player of many instruments including fiddle, mandolin, banjo, tin whistle and viola. In 2004 she graduated from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth with a Honours Degree in Music and Geography, during this time she had the opportunity to study composition, arrangement and various genres of music. She has performed in Europe, America and most recently in Africa. She is a highly regarded and sought after music teacher throughout Ireland.
She has also been successful in various competitions in both solo and group playing. Currently she is studying for a Masters Degree in Performance and Musicology which she hopes to complete early next year.
