WE ARE HIP HOP

About Me

Who are we? We are Hip Hop; the builders,the workers,the Dj’s, the artists,the dancers, the poets, the emcees,the freedom fighters,the graphic designers,the writers,your family,the people.
We are a community. We are Hip Hop and our power is derived from us being united,so for one night we join together to save the very place where it all began.
Music has been the most important support system. Throughout time it has remained the glue that has binded us in times of distress,revolution and in celebration.
Hip Hop music is the glue for our generation.
Everywhere in the world you go you see the influence of Hip Hop. From Bangladesh to Berlin,Cambodia to Australia, Hip Hop is our world culture. It’s the glue that binds us, now we understand each other, we understand our plights are the same. Through this understanding we have created opportunities for advancement and growth, but at what cost?
Why is it that we’ve become so apathetic? Segregrated in our technology and personal identities;
We are a community.That we all autonomously and together have connected with our favorite songs, our favorite groups, our fashion statements, our Hip Hop. We must ensure that we preserve our landmarks and historic places of origin for future generations to know who they are,what they claim and what they represent.
By bringing together these groundbreaking artists and musicians we plan to1.Provide a solace for our community, just as Kool Herc did in 1973. 2.Preserve a cultural landmark 3. Raise the funds necessary to save one of the last remaining low income housing projects in the Bronx and the families that rely on it. 4. Deliver a taste test for everything Hip Hop,our community, has to offer. 5. Represent what Hip Hop is. Ours
We need to remember places like Sedgwick and Cedar to enrich our roots, we need to revive the intentions of people like Kool Herc who thought outside the box, and created a strength in numbers.
Keep the fabric of our lives which is Hip Hop alive by supporting our benefit for 1520 Sedgwick, the birthplace of hip hop,where it all began. We define what hip hop is, not the media, not the record labels, us.WE ARE HIP HOP

***Announcement***We would like to take this opportunity expresses a big Thank You for the immense wave of support all of you have given in the forms of rallying, sponsorship, will to perform, donations, time, energy, excitement, knowledge, and to solidify that those who state they are Hip Hop are willing to give something back to preserve the history and integrity of Hip Hop.

We are saddened to announce that the We Are Hip Hop - Benefit to save Sedgwick and Cedar on May 23rd has been postponed until an undetermined future date (within the next few months). Due to the huge response, we have decided that in order to give this important issue the forum and press it deserves, additional time is needed. As well as finding even more time to facilitate the festivities which may even commence in a two day event. The need to save 1520 Sedgwick is crucial and immediate. We will be back shortly with a stronger backing, more press, more support, and for all of you a guaranteed mind blowing time, beginning to end.

In the mean time do not forget what we are doing this for! Donations will still be accepted as you can donate directly at uhab.com as well as keep up with all the latest news on the issue. We are here to raise awareness and educate and we still need all the support you can give.

Keep checking back with updates. The press will be huge, the line up will be full of amazing talent and the backing will be impressive. Don’t wait till it’s too late as the next one will sell out faster.

Anyone who purchased tickets will receive a full refund as well as an extra special thank you. Anyone who donated will be thanked in a manner to support our ideal ~”Getters don't get--givers get”

As much of a let down this is and puts us in a serious position of loss, our decisions were finalized as we received several autonomous pieces of news of those involved falling upon personal tragedy. As we believe all of these people are so very important to Hip Hop, this cause, and the world we finalized our decision to pause and give our positive energy to these who need it most. We encourage all of you to do the same, if not for a brief moment, pause and send out our positive will to those who are needing it most in the world. To the residents of Sedgwick and Cedar, to those close to us who are suffering, to those struggling just as we struggle in the world, we all breathe deeply together within our music.
