First thing happening is a photography exhibit by the illustrious Casey DeCotis @ Imago Gallery. He will once again lead us on a tour of textures. Infusing our awareness of modern landscapes with mystery that was already present but all too often overlooked.(Claudia Pastorious)
Visual Perception: Casey DeCotis presents
innovation in the art of photography Friday, November 16th starting at 7:00pm IMAGO gallery presents the art of Casey DeCotis. The exhibit, Visual Perception, presents an innovative body of art through the medium of photography.
The body of work is largely comprised of images taken in urban New York City. The urban energy is felt in the art, even as Casey’s unique sense of composition and perspective redefine the context of the imagery. Much of Casey’s photography is an amplification of details that often go unseen in today’s fast paced culture. In highlighting the beauty of things deemed insignificant Casey creates a dialogue with the observer of the art, allowing the mind to expand upon it’s perception of what it is that matters in all we see. The simplicity and clean lines prevalent in his work create spacious compositions that are aesthetically exciting. The work is innovative in the fashion it draws from the visual strength of abstract art through the typically representational medium of photography. It is only 30 years ago that the Museum of Modern art presented its first solo photography exhibit. Although
photography has now secured its place as a respectable art medium in the art world, its ability and significance within art history is still being defined. It is exciting to see this caliber of artistic creativity displayed in Brevard County. IMAGO gallery owner Mark E. Baker is proud to sponsor Casey’s second exhibit and to foster awareness and dialogue in the community about the nature of contemporary art. The huge success of his first exhibit and sales record show that DeCotis is an artist to be watched, appreciated, and collected. Casey was born in Utica, upstate New york and moved to the Space
Coast when he was 9 years old. He studied Photography and Design
locally at Brevard Community College. In addition to his art, Casey stays busy with his work as an ad Executive for Florida
Today Newspaper and as resident DJ of Foobar in downtown Melbourne. Meet the artist and enjoy the art at the November 16th exhibit
opening starting at 7PM. Complimentary refreshments will be served
and there will be a cash wine & imported beer bar. DJ’s T-mas and Shek-
E will provide melodies at the event. More about Casey’s art can be

I was fascinated especially by the bright blue wall, green dumpster, and sidewalk piece---you made that normally desolate scene feel as exciting and breathtaking as a day at the beach. Each piece could really tell its own story, evoking unique sensations through each observer's perception. I could go on and on, but my favorite thing you are doing that I forgot to highlight before is the uber creative use of reflections in your compositions. A gutter puddle really does have a lot to share with the world, and is a world unto itself. Reflections in the sunglasses, especially when you catch the artist's role in the piece- feel to me like the creation of multi-dimensional realities within one plane. This is truly mesmerizing art. Way to Be Casey!!!!
