Mary Prescott

About Me

New York City based American pianist, Mary Prescott, began formal musical studies at the age of five years old in her hometown of Minneapolis. As a child, Ms. Prescott won several prizes and awards initiating a more serious pathway to a career in music. Upon earning numerous academic and musical scholarships, she began college at the University of Minnesota under the guidance of Dr. Paul Shaw, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. Further studies took her to the Manhattan School of Music, where she received a Master of Music degree as a student of Nina Svetlanova. Since her graduation, Ms. Prescott has established an important role in the NYC music scene as a teacher, performer and musical visionary. She is currently on the faculties of the Larchmont Music Academy and Great Neck Music Conservatory, as well as maintaining a private studio in Manhattan. Recent performances include appearances at New York's famed Carnegie Hall and a tour of Croatia with her own piano trio, Trio Soleá, as well as the world premiere of Mujer Gris: a Tango Rhapsody for clarinet, violin and piano by Argentinian composer, Lucía Caruso. Ms. Prescott is currently embarking upon a new journey with Turkish pianist, Pınar Basgoze, as a piano duo. She is also the founding director of Sound Approach, a newly formed musical collective whose goal is to create a stage for performance in any, and often unlikely locations, offering exposure to a variety of quality live music for both performers and listeners. Sound Approach's most recent concert was presented from the open windows of a second story apartment to a crowded audience below on the streets of Harlem. Further projects have been initiated by Ms. Prescott's passion for world music, particularly that of flamenco, tango, blues and fado, which she has enjoyed fusing with her classical base.Advertisement -- composed by Henry Cowell
