East All-Star: Chris Singletary
Height: 6-foot-4Weight: 230 lbs.Position: GuardHigh School: Florida Prep AcademyHometown: Chicago, IllinoisCollege: UndecidedBio: The 2006 Roundball Classic is a homecoming of sorts for Chris Singletary, a powerful point guard with a football background similar to 2005 Roundball Classic participant Byron Eaton. Although Singletary's parents were basketball standouts, he grew up loving football but has now developed into one of Chicago's best hoop prospects over the last four years. With his well-built frame, Chris can play a number of positions and like most players with a gridiron background he is a strong finisher around the basket.A four-year varsity performer and a starter in each of his three seasons at Farragut Academy, Singletary averaged 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in his junior season for the Admirals. He also couldn't stay away from the gridiron as he played tight end and defensive end on the Admirals' football team.As a sophomore on the hardwood, he helped a talented team win the Super-Sectional with a 60-56 triumph over coach Gene Pingatore and his squad at St. Joseph's of Westchester. In the Elite 8, Farragut fell to eventual 2004 Class AA State Champion Peoria, 42-40. Despite the heart-breaking loss, Singletary helped the Admirals compile a 29-4 overall record as he averaged 14.6 points and six assists.Singletary was not just a standout in the PSL, but also on the Summer circuit for Mac Irvin's Illinois Fire AAU team. He helped the Fire win the 2005 Mac Irvin Summer Slam-N-Jam title with a 56-54 win over Mean Streets, a team that included 2006 Roundball Classic All-Star Patrick Beverley. In addition to hitting the game-winning free throws, Singletary nailed three shots from three-point range en route to 17 points and MVP honors.Individually, Singletary shined at the Reebok ABCD Camp in 2004, earning All-Star honors among the camp's 180 participants. Last October, he was also named the most elite player at the Fourth Annual High School Elite Top 50 Junior Showcase at North Park University in Chicago. Growing up on Chicago's tough West side, the maturing young man thought a change of scenery would be best as a senior, but Windy City fans can't wait to see him again in action on April 9th. He's excited to play because he knows many of the nation's best players will be participating in the Original Roundball Showcase.Personal Info:•Nickname: "Slow Motion"•Hobbies: Bowling, listening to music, playing video gamesDid you know....•His father and mother, Catrina Singletary, are both 6-foot-3 and both played basketball at Malcolm X Junior College in Chicago.•Before moving on to Florida, Singletary attened the same public league school as 1995 Roundball Classic All-Star Kevin Garnett, the Student Sports National Player of the Year that season.•Besides hoops, the well-built Windy City native also enjoys football and baseball and stopped playing football at the urging of his grandmother.More info on Chris Singletary:Singletary loves football, but shines on the court
