California Repertory Company is a professionally-modeled graduate training program and theatrical laboratory whose primary mission is to train theatre artists and teachers. Cal Rep works in partnership with California State University, Long Beach. The actors, designers, technicians, and arts managers who comprise the company are candidates for the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree. Since its inaugural season in 1989, Cal Rep has produced many American and world premieres. The company has hosted renowned guest artists from Australia, Czechoslavakia, England, Italy, Germany, Scotland, Wales, and the former Soviet Union, and has toured Europe and Asia.
