Sanctification: God’s Way Of Life
You have probably said to your self, I have to get closer to God. Maybe that’s why certain things aren’t working. Maybe that’s why life hasn’t been going my way. When we talk about getting closer to God, you’re talking about sanctification.
You have probably heard your Grandmother say it. You may have heard others say “I’m a sanctified, filled with the Holy Ghost.” But what does it mean to be sanctified.
To sanctify your self is to make a conscience effort to go after God. To do those things which you know are right, for nothing more than the sake that you know that it’s the right thing to do. Sanctification separates you unto God, away from evil ways and evil behavior. Only in stepping into Christ can you obtain righteousness unto God.
Let me say this clearly, YOU CAN NOT BE SAVED BY YOUR WORKS. I don’t care what any of these talk shows, or New Age philosophers tell you. Jesus said “No man may come to the father except by me.” There is only one way, through him, not through what you do. No matter how many homeless people you feed, or old ladies you walk across the street, you can not claim your spot in heaven by your good deeds.
You have to step into Jesus, and through him you are saved. You see the result of sanctification is holiness. And holiness is being of one mind with God. That comes more through the way you think, than the way you look (wearing that dress your Granny gave you 2 Christmases ago, that comes to your ankles, does not make you holy). And the only way you affect the way you think, is by exposing yourself to the word of God. By reading your Bible, you gain insight into the thoughts and plans of God. You learn how he intends things to be and how his perfect design is the only way.
The bottom line is God wants us free from guilt. Guilt is the power of sin. Point blank, guilt makes you a coward. Because all it does is constantly remind you of your past and your mistakes. The times that you wanted to do the right thing and didn’t, or you just didn’t know the right thing to do and you chose something else. Either way guilt brings you into a state where you become afraid to do anything and you stand still and let the chips fall were they may. And we all know that our past mistakes make us feel unworthy of what God wants to do for us. But that’s why we have to step into Jesus, because in him we become a new person beyond our past. We have to receive the righteousness of God through Jesus and him alone. It’s all about love, which is the only way to redemption. We have to forgive ourselves, for the mistakes we made. Then ask God to forgive us. Then begin to sanctify ourselves into a new dimension of Christ.
