Having been exposed to the acoustic music of John Denver and Hank Williams Jr as a child, Bobby learned at the age of 12 how to manuever on the guitar, playing songs like 'Imagine' by John Lennon and 'Georgia On My Mind' by Ray Charles. As with most young kids, rock music seduced him into switching to the electric guitar by the age of 17. After honing his guitar chops in blues, jazz, soul and rock bands throughout the 1990's, Bobby's return to the acoustic was inevitable. Only now he had the knowledge, having also studied contemporary music at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles (1990-1992), to translate into a professional acoustic singer-songwriter. He switches between a roundneck Martin dreadnought and a GoldTone Weissenborn, made popular by artists like Ben Harper and John Butler. His first professional acoustic-based work including 8 originals, two of which were played on rotation on various radio stations in Europe and the United States.
Bobby's acoustic shows vary from solo openers (usually 40min sets) to two-set shows with accompaniment, either a percussionist or second vocalist. His solo sets form the basic material from his two released EP's, featuring songs like 'Busy Avenue', 'Believe', 'Fools Sailing On', and 'Looking Up From The Bottom', interspersed with melodic slide instrumentals like 'Walk Through The Valley' and the Latin-influenced 'Chelisimo'. He may add a few covers to his sets, including a heart-wrenching acoustic version of Jimi Hendrix' 'May This Be Love', a bluesy Weissenborn version of the Beatles 'I'm Only Sleeping', and a tribute to the late Chris Whitley with a version of 'Wild Country'.Bobby recently toured as bassist for blues-roots legend Corey Harris.
