About Me

Deep in the German countryside there is a village where the Brothers Grimm first collected their fairytales and told their stories. This is where I was born. When I was 9, I forgot my brother's birthday ... I had no present so I wrote him a song on my little keyboard instead. Soon afterwards I started to play the bass flute and accordion and sang in the church choir. But when my teenage imagination took hold, the fairytales faded and I swapped my accordion for Deep Purple, a guitar and a motorbike. My friend convinced me to audition for a singing contest on TV - which I won. I packed my bags and headed for London. There, while I was paying my open-mic dues, my new found love of Opera, Marlene Dietrich and Peaches led me to meet my co-writer and producer Alex Gray.We discovered we both loved Bladerunner, Kraftwerk and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The rest, as they say, is history.

Sounds Like: REVIEWS ***** REVIEWS **** REVIEWS'Electro Weimar Cabaret' is the easiest way to describe the music of KATJA VON KASSEL. She sings in both German and English, often within the same song in a sultry Marlene Dietrich tone. With strong European influences like French accordions and 'Vienna' piano, it has hints of being a more dancier version of GRACE JONES 'I've Seen That Face Before'. The Wagnerian quality of Katja's 'Gotterdammerung' delivery when she lets go with her emotions and you have a very unique style of modern electro that possesses a classic quality that will last, electro revival or not! ChiMing Lai**** WWW.LEAGUE-ONLINE.COM **** Top 20 electronic acts in 2009: 'Goodbye Was Never Said' leads us back to the obscure soundscapes of fellow German Robert Gorl and his track 'Mit Dir'. 'Goodbye Was Never Said' is brilliantly produced with expert bleeps. Despite the pop hooks particularly with Katja's superbly executed 'oh oohs', this song really sounds like nothing you've heard before in a very long time. You can imagine it blasting out from UK radio stations across the land.Future Pop Hit - and your head will bop to it's beats.EY also urges you to check out 'Du Schwein' - it's a bit special.**** MARSHEAUX**** Katja von Kassel is a slice of perfect heaven, and Katja is the real deal. Her sound brings to mind the likes of Dagmar Krauser, echoes of torch song, and a voice which is truly beautiful. I would dearly love to see Katja become the voice of 2009.**** **** I had such an amazing experience when I met a lady by the name of Katja von Kassel . If you can imagine a vision of Marlene Dietrich fused with sumptious electronica, then you might get close to the truth. **** ******** WWW.MYVILLAGE.COM **** I suppose it's predictable that, as an old electropopster, I like the occasional bit of breathy female vocals with a central European accent. So I'm currently quite enjoying Katja von Kassel - a London-based German lady who, despite being a trained soprano, prefers a more relaxed vocal style for her 1930s-tinged electropop. Check out the song 'Dancing on Airwaves'. ('Treppenhaus' is the German-language version of the same tune.) With the right airplay, that could be a massive hit. REVIEWS **** REVIEWS **** REVIEWS
