Shear Terror Hair Designs © is a diverse conceptual platform for comsetology services and hairstyling for photography/session work, created and founded by hair stylist Travis Kelley. With Shear Terror, he has taken this concept and based it around a stern philosophy: to go beyond the rules of hair and fashion and create something unique, with a DIY ethos, and to uphold a vision that melds beauty, fashion, music, and individuality into a work of art.
Taking into consideration the limitations of how a typical salon atmosphere is ran, and refusing to allow creativity to be dilluted, the general view behind Shear Terror Hair Designs is to offer a free-thinking, creative outlet that allows a person to be an individual and to express themselves in various facets surrounding their image, ideas, and interests. “This isn’t just something I created for myself,” Travis says, “It’s for everyone who desires that continuity of something fresh and new, that allows them to be proud of who they are and how they look!” Although primarily based around the work produced by Travis, be it at-home hair services or session stylist work, Shear Terror seeks to eventually branch out and become a team of collaborators, ranging from other hair stylists, clothing designers, to makeup artists, who want to be a part of something different and not be bound by typical industry standards.
Shear Terror Hair Designs specializes in a wide array of styling and hair design aesthetics, from avant-garde, glamour, bridal, pin-up, to alternative. Likewise, the same anecdotes are also used in hair cutting and coloring techniques, never limiting a clients desire for a certain look. With that in mind, Travis mentions, "There is definitely an abundance of what some people call 'fashionably eccentric' hair in my work, but I'm also aware that not everyone is going to want that kind of look or style. That being said, I want people to understand that I take on each client individually, working towards what they want to achieve in order to make them happy with the results."
Although Shear Terror Hair Designs is NOT a salon, Travis is working hard on making that a reality later on down the line. For now, however, Shear Terror Hair Designs will remain the premier freelancing movement in hair design that continues to challenge the industry with cutting-edge ideas and push them forward in new, exciting directions.

Originally from Columbus, Ohio, and residing all over Florida since 2003, Travis Kelley is a 27 year-old, licensed cosmetologist and freelance session stylist. Although he has only been doing hair for a little over a year, his passion and ambition is a driving force behind his work and motivates him to push forward. With a constant hunger for knowledge and desire to create, he thrives upon experimentation with various techniques and ideas to bring new life to his craft.
Having been in the industry for several years on the business end, from assisting to salon management, Travis derived the idea for Shear Terror Hair Designs from his experiences in the field. “I felt like there wasn’t quite a place for me, and for many other people who carry the same views, in this business. Doing hair shouldn’t be about looking or acting a certain way. Everyone has this preconceived notion that hair stylists are bound to certain limitations of who they are, and most salons inhibit an individual's desire to be themselves and expand on their work. Once I completed my cosmetology training, and really delved into this medium, I was determined to change that outlook.”
Drawing from various influences and interests, Shear Terror Hair Designs has become a bit of an extension of Travis’s own personal self. “I guess you could say I am not your typical hair stylist. I listen to metal, I’m heavily tattooed, and I approach hair with a different aesthetic than most people I know in the business. My passion for creating beauty with an avant-garde appeal doesn’t just derive itself from the natural attraction of a woman, but from art, music, films…just various little details in life that one might overlook as inspiration.”
To date, he has worked with and done hair for over a hundred models, and his hairstyles and designs can be seen in the works of such established photographers as Chad Martel, Bil Brown, Mojokiss, and Scott Smallin.

Travis’s hair designs have been featured in the Seminole Hard Rock 2009 Calendar in Tampa, Florida, as well as being featured on Hard Rock billboards in the area.
