25 Random Things about me:1. I don’t want children. I do like children and I have all the respect in the world for parents, but parenthood isn’t everyone’s destiny.2. I hate greeting cards that rhyme.3. I am really making an effort to NOT support factory farming.4. I have seen every episode of Roseanne many times and I will still sit down and watch it anytime.5. Honesty and integrity are probably the most important qualities I look for in others and try to live up to myself.6. I LOVE long hair on men. And tattoos.7. I am an introvert. This does not necessarily mean that I am shy or quiet and it DOES NOT mean that there’s something wrong with me. It means that I draw energy from internal sources and that being around a lot of people for an extended period of time can be draining for me. I often find myself wanting to leave parties or bars after having been there only a short time. People sometimes seem offended by this or they will go out of their way to try and make me have fun (for the record, it doesn’t work). I enjoy being alone, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like people or being around people. It’s just that I am better able to process my thoughts when I’m alone. I very rarely feel lonely.8. I strongly believe that processed foods are causing a majority of the health problems in this country, both directly and indirectly.9. I love roller derby! I think I qualify as obsessed. I just bought derby skates. I’m going to try out.10. I love the late 60s early 70s hippie styles – I don’t care what others say about it.11. I’d rather be alone for the rest of my life than date someone who doesn’t accept me for exactly who I am.12. I don’t have a car and I’m not sure I ever want to own one again. I take the bus and walk (and will soon roller skate!) and I utilize Zipcar whenever I do need a vehicle. It has saved me tremendous amounts of money and stress. I was a delivery driver for 8 years, and was therefore very dependent on my car, now I feel free of it. My life may someday require me to own another vehicle, but until it does...13. I loathe being told what to do. A ‘will you’ at the beginning and a question mark at the end makes all the difference.14. I love to cook and I’m pretty good at it.15. I am a coffee snob. You can keep your Folgers crystals.16. I am absolutely in LOVE with Jason Lee. For those of you who don’t know who that is, he is currently best known for My Name is Earl, but my love dates back to Mallrats.17. It’s not really intentional, but I can be a bit of a “Debbie Downer†(for those of you who are unfamiliar, it’s a character on SNL played by Rachel Dratch – you can watch clips online). I read a lot of news and I tend to absorb information like a sponge and I like to share it with others. I can’t really explain why, but news doesn’t depress me, it makes me feel empowered. I just haven’t come to the full realization that most people just don’t want to hear it.18. I’ve always wanted to buy a Greyhound Discovery Pass (I think they used to be called America Passes) and spend a couple months living out of a backpack and trying to see every state in the US.19. I am very interested in food and agriculture politics. I have read about 20 books related to that topic in the past 9 months and I have a list of about 50 more that I’m working on. My ideas about food, farming, government, corporations, and the environment have changed a lot because of this education.20. I delivered food to Corey Stringer two days before he died.21. After high school I entered a Legal Secretary program at Minneapolis Business College – that lasted one semester but I learned some good computer and business skills. After that I enrolled in the Human Services program at MCTC – I stopped 3 english credits short of my degree, but I learned a lot about counseling, communication, boundries and community resources. I am now certified as a massage therapist and as a personal trainer. I don’t practice massage anymore, but in massage school I gained a lot of knowledge about anatomy, physiology and pathology, which was essential to getting my trainer certification. I currently work in a holistic wellness center in an upscale retirement community. I develop exercise classes, facilitate a couple support groups, write weekly wellness tips, provide educational opportunities and basically anything I can think of to help incorporate wellness into the lives of our residents and staff. I am happy to report that I am using almost everything I learned during ALL of my schooling.22. In third grade I was cornered by two teachers who accused me of teasing a boy – they were REALLY angry and it scared me so much that when they asked me if I did it, I nodded. I HAD NEVER EVEN TALKED TO THAT BOY! I had to have my desk next to the teacher’s desk for the rest of the year.23. I weighed almost 200 pounds when I graduated from high school – about a year later I was down to 130 and have not been more than about 150 since.24. I became obsessed with Charles Manson for a while a few years back. Not in a “Free Manson†kind of way, I’m just really interested in true crime and it’s a really fascinating case. I read nine books about it.25. My dog Sophie gives hugs on command.
