About Me

Kover Girl Tia was born Kedesha Zaire Powell on July 23, 1981 in Jubilee Hospital in Kingston Jamaica. Born to the proud parents of Annmarie Donna Wauchope and Keith Shootas Powell. Her father later migrated to the United States leaving Annmarie in Jamaica as a single parent. The day that her father was suppose to see her for the first time, is the same day the he was killed. She never got a change to meet or see her father. Being the first child out of six siblings on her mother side, growing up in Water House, at the age of two years old, she was diagnosed with a rear form of disability that could have paralyzed her. Two tumors have grown on her left leg, which caused her to walk like patients with polio. On a mission to help her daughter, Annmarie first took her to Children’s Hospital, then University Hospital of the West Indies for treatment. To find a cure, doctors monitored her symptoms, they tested her for polio but it came back negative. As doctors and specialist came to see this child with this rear form of illness, Annmarie became worried that this may leave her daughter disable for the rest of her life or worse cause her to die. It was almost six months later and doctors were unable to diagnose or provide treatment. Frustrated by the lack of help, Annmarie signed her out of the hospital against doctor’s order. She took her into the hills to an Ancient Rastafarian Priest explaining to him that doctors were unable to help her daughter’s illness. The priest reassured her mother, Kedesha is a “Child of Judah” where he performed a spiritual ritual where the tumor was located. After he blessed her, he told her to bring her back to the hospital. By now the tumors had enlarged on her leg. Annmarie followed his order and took her back to University hospital the following day. Doctors were then able to provide treatment, where they cut and removed the tumors. Kedesha was then admitted in the hospital, where she recovered for a month. To this day, doctors have not specified what caused the tumors, or what kind of illness it was, it’s still a mystery. Even though she won the battle with her illness, she still has the scars on her left leg as a reminder. Giving praises, Kedesha feel bless and thankful to be born on the same day as H.I.M.
