Queen Kong Bio
Queen Kong is a five-piece Rock and Roll cover band with a Superstar lineup. Multiple lead singers and tight musicianship places this band among the forefront of their regional touring circuit. The band’s powerhouse live performances have made this quintet the topic of discussion for area music lovers alike. Queen Kong consists of former members of the alternative rock band For The Moment with the addition of De Anna Fox on lead vocals. “Fox boasts an uncanny natural ability to mimic the nations most reputable artists and has one of the most powerful voices I’ve ever heard”, says the band’s spokesperson, Jon Smith.
Smith (guitar/vocals) and David Thomas (drums/vocals) have played in various bands together throughout the years and are regionally celebrated for their onstage antics with former 80’s cover band Discount Superstar, where Thomas served as the lead singer and also played keyboards. They shared stages with numerous national acts, vigorously toured the “A Circuit” club scene and were even hired to perform for MTV private parties and ESPN internationally televised sporting events back in their heyday. After hundreds of shows and several lineup changes, Discount Superstar eventually disbanded. Smith and Thomas moved onward together forming various side projects before creating For The Moment with bassist Joey Baltzell and lead guitarist Bryan Whitfield. For The Moment wrote, recorded and co-produced two independent CD releases, maintained a top-ten popularity ranking at myspace.com and performed seventy-nine live concerts during their short nine months of existence. “We were always looking for a lead singer during that time frame”, says Smith, “but not fortunate enough to find the right person so I accepted the position myself for lack of a better choice”. Physical exhaustion accompanied by Whitfield’s decision to relocate out of state ultimately became the death of For The Moment.
With the unfulfilled desire for a fresh project still lingering, Smith, Thomas and Baltzell recruited Fox for the lead vocal position and began to experiment with new tonal possibilities. As luck and timing would have it, Whitfield relocated back to Albany and seamlessly fit like a glove within the new format. Shortly after its initial concept, a new band evolved with an energy level like no other. Queen Kong is the finished product.
The Queen Kong set list features Fox belting out songs by Paramore, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, The Donnas, Pink, Alanis Moressette, The Cranberries, The Breeders, Hole, Tracy Bonham, Garbage, The Pixies, No Doubt, Veruca Salt, Pat Benatar, Heart and The B52’s just to name a few. Smith and Thomas also share male lead vocal duties on tunes by The Foo Fighters, Green Day, The Cure, Queens of the Stone Age, U2, The Arctic Monkeys, The Whites Stripes, Jet, The Killers and Black Sabbath among several others. Queen Kong plays select mainstream pop, obscure alternative, great classic rock and a few originals which ultimately amounts to a sure win for any party atmosphere.
