Laos is a communist country with the third highest ranking for persecution of Christians in the world. Since the 1990's the government has been intent on completely eliminating any Christian presence in the country. There are restrictions on evangelizing in public, building churches, and having communication with foreign organizations. During the past three years the Lord has blessed the house church movement led by Houmphanh Konsengphengphet in the Vientiane district. There are currently eight growing congregations with a total of 179 members worshipping on the Sabbath. Thanks to answered prayers the provincial government has given ASAP-sponsored Adventist pastors permission to work in this area under the leadership of Pastor Khamsay Phetchareum. Growing congregations meet regularly in this area; there are currently 150 baptized church members and an additional 537 people who attend church on a weekly basis. The 2007 ASAP goal for Laos is to respond to the need for support of five pastors and thirty Bible workers. By God's grace, we anticipate the opening of more doors to do His service.
