About Me
Necropolis was founded in early 1997 by Joël Goguen, Dale LeBlanc and Sébastien Duval. Later on, they acquired local bassist, Israël Goguen. Now having a full lineup, they were ready to start growing. During practices, they would warm up to Slayer and Sepultura covers and then proceed to writing and practicing their original compositions. Within a few months, the four young musicians had already written 5 songs. The group then proceeded to playing a first-ever live show, the NoiseFest, in early September 1997.Things were getting in place. Talks of recording a demo CD were already in the air. January 1998 saw the beginning of the recording process. As the recording was moving along, the group started to notice that Israël was generating interest in starting his own group in the doom metal realm later forming the band Slough of Despond , and therefor, they parted ways. Luckily, long time friend, and guitarist at the time, Paul Devarenne stepped into the studio and in less than three weeks, all bass tracks had been recorded. Shortly after followed the mixing and mastering of the CD and then, the final product: Destined Regrets.By July 1998, word started to spread about this new band from the Moncton area called Necropolis, and they started to get connections with other bands from the local scene, invitations to play gigs, etc. People were already ordering their copy of Destined Regrets. In September 1998, Necropolis took their talent to the World Wide Web. With the launch of their website and 2 songs on MP3.com, they got some well deserved attention from around the world. The songs Burning Soul and Destined Regrets were being downloaded hundreds of times a day by people from as far as the U.K. and Australia. Soon after, they added the song Dungeon of the Dead. This later proved to be a good move as it reached number one on the MP3 metal charts in March 1999.The band played their first-ever bar show on October 17th 1998 with local metal bands Earth A.D and Initial Distrust. Moncton had never seen or heard anything like Necropolis. Right after that show, they were already planning another one; February 6th 1999 was going to be the official release of their debut album: Destined Regrets. The group has since played in Halifax with local death metal act Dichotic and Québec's Martyr. In early December 1999, Necropolis went into the studio to record two new songs. then followed to record 3 more in 2000 to finish off a 5 song demo they had planned to release but never did . The band broke up pertty much in 2001 and every member went their separate directions .Dale and Joel had start another project which never had a name but they had also returned to the studio to record a 3 song demo, that sounded promising: but the project got dropped due to Joel relocating to Vancouver B.C with, at the time his group called Dril .Joel Goguen is now the front man for a band called Innocent Bystander,a Vancouver founded rock group which have accomplished quite a bit and gained success in recent years .Dale and Paul in Jan 2006 teamed up and formed a new group called Emotions Cast but also disbanded due to Dale moving to Edmonton Alberta ,oct 2006 .
Dale is currently writing material for a potential full 12 song demo for a new project currently named "Elevated Earth" in which has collaboration with his brother, Bassist Cy Leblanc .
