On a hot summer night in 2007 guitarist Tom Bell and bassist Matt Bell met singer-songwriter Justin Barbu at a block party in Trenton, Michigan. This serendipitous meeting and their shared passion for music led to the creation of Soul Preacher. Soul Preacher merges influences from Modern and Classic Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Funk by such greats as Led Zeppelin , Guns n' Roses, STP, Yes, Motown, Stax-Volt, Muscle Shoals, Black Sabbath, Cream, James Brown, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Alice in Chains to create a unique sound all their own. Tom Bell's searing and soulful guitar licks are complimented by his brother Matt's prowess and drive on bass to deliver the unmistakable sound of Soul Preacher. While Justin Barbu's undeniable tenacity and passion put the soul in Soul Preacher.
Justin, Tom, and Matt have all been playing music since their early teens, in bands throughout Michigan. Their bands played a range of cover and original songs. Justin Barbu’s passion for song writing developed as a release from daily life and all of its perks and betrayals. His voice comes from a place of passion and angst that emerges in a booming and soulful sound. Brothers Tom and Matt Bell were instantly drawn to the guitar and bass as a way of channeling their creative energy while growing up in Allen Park, Michigan. Tom attached to a guitar from the moment he picked one up and has been able to create a searing sound for Soul Preacher. Matt not to be out done by his brother has developed a synergy with his bass that creates a seamless and raucous structure.
Soul Preacher's original drummer left the band due to unforeseen circumstances in late 2008. A close friend, Tim Cooper, joined shortly thereafter. His addition to the band quickly inundated a tightness and energy level that fit seamlessly.
As a band Soul Preacher is passionate about developing their music even further. They are driven to progress as musicians and to excel to the level of the legends that have influenced them.
