Memo provides a much-needed contribution to the Canadian hip-hop scene. His combined skills of rapping and painting make him an extremely diverse artist, and provide him with the perfect vehicles for expression. ............................................................ ..................................................... After making a name for himself as one of Vancouver’s top graffiti artists and MCs, Memo moved to Montreal in 2002 for a change of pace. Soon after arriving, he created a plan to try and rebuild Montreal’s ailing hip-hop scene. ............................................................ ...................................................... He started by promoting shows that brought different artists together, uniting them to form alliances. This broke down several barriers and eliminated much of the “beef” that existed between various crews, leading to the foundation of ICM (Island City Monsters) - a collective group of Montreal’s finest MCs, DJs, and graffiti writers. The group went on to form their own record label, and Memo became part owner and vice president of ICM Records Inc. ............................................................ ..................................................... As an MC, Memo has the extraordinary ability to put other people in his shoes. He is one of the most articulate rappers in the business, and through his rhymes come his experiences. Choose any one of his tracks at random, and within the lyrics you will discover Memo’s world – as seen through his eyes. In the last few months ICM records closed their doors for good after 4 years of releases and showcases but memo has been hard at work on his first solo album a collection of Memo’s darker and more personal songs scheduled for release later next year.
