DEAD CHANNELS

About Me

Friday, December 14th, 2007- L.A. Massacre played their last show. Me(Angelo) and Matt felt the need to continue on, writing songs and playing shows. We regrouped the band that later became DEAD CHANNELS only a few weeks later with drummer Phil DeGennaro. At the time, Phil was playing drums for In Anchorage, and singing for Most Destro, two really great bands from our local area. Around the time of L.A's break up, In Anchorage was also coming to an end. Phil and I got to talking about how we had such a passion for our bands, and the music that was being created. We knew that we couldn't continue on- seeing as In Anchorage was parting ways and I had a strong feeling that L.A was onto something good, but as a group we lacked the energy that was needed to really push what we had. Phil had expressed an interest in coming out to a practice with Matt and I, and we were happy to have him. After our first practice we had a talk about what was important to us. It was made clear that we were on a mission to make music that we felt strongly about- we were going to say what we wanted to say and write what we wanted to write regardless of how anyone else felt about it. After a few months of practicing and recording a live demo, which we passed around in hopes to find a second guitar player we felt there was only one person fit for the job. His name: Chris Curtin. He had been a friend of ours for a long time, playing shows along side other projects of his, such as Texas Blind and document ; We knew after playing with him once that we needed to look no further. Finally, with a solid line up, we played our first show that July. We recorded our first demo with Kevin Kumetz at Blackout Studios. Only four shows later, Phil told us that he was unhappy living in O.C. working hard for minimum wage and barely affording a studio apartment. He told us that he had been offered an opportunity in Portland, Oregon and we understood(we will always have a brother in Portland). We recorded our last songs that we had written together shortly before he left at our friend Jeff's studio Boomstick Recordings. As a group, we refused to let our efforts end there. Resenting the fact that we were from a local scene where it is cooler to say you like a band rather than come out to a show and actually see them, we continued on just to prove that point. We tried out four drummers before playing with Greg Farmer who had played in L.A. Massacre and in other projects with Matt and I over the course of seven years. When he came into the band, it was as a fill in to keep us moving. We played with him once and he knew every song front to back. We asked him to stay and he said yes, honestly it felt good to have him back. Every band i had been in before Greg had played drums. I think it even made being in DEAD CHANNELS more important to me than before. currently we are trying to keep doing what we set out to do. we refuse to lose sight of whats really important to us.we're just trying to make some rock and roll music ... minus the ego
