About Me

Welcome to this My Space page of Dean Bailin Music Production. I'd like to tell you briefly about some of the music related events in my life that occurred prior to the formation of my current production facility (4 Cats Studio, NYC).I cut short music composition studies at the Manhattan School of Music choosing instead to develop musically in the colorful world of Manhattan's music scene. I lived with my band in a loft in downtown Brooklyn, and soon began what was to become a successful career as a session guitarist in New York's Tin Pan Ally. Doing session work required the ability to quickly adapt to the style of each artist. Doing this on a daily basis proved to provide a better means of learning what was most important to me and about creating music in the real world.I played all of the guitars and served as music director on the Gold LP entitled "Partners In Crime" for songwriter/artist Rupert Holmes, and that LP included "Escape (the Piña Colada Song). My guitar work on Piña Colada has been been featured in numerous recent major movies, and the song was the first number 1 song of the 80's on Billboard's Pop chart. Other projects from that period included guitar work on songs by Kurtis Blow that are now considered some of the earliest successful rap recordings. I also performed in the show and cast recording of "Gilda Live" (which was 1st staged on Broadway, and later made into a film by Lorne Michaels and Mike Nichols). And of course, there were thousands of gigs...... everything from rock, punk, funk and jazz clubs to American Bandstand ......After touring as guitarist and music director for Rupert Holmes in the years following the success of the Piña Colada Song, I set up 4 Cats Studio. In this recording environment, I have been blessed to have worked with a steady stream of some of New York's most talented and inspired musical artists.Recently, I met a young girl from China named Neko Zhang, and I produced a CD for her entitled "Wanton Desires". You can find more information about this by clicking the following link: " NEKOonline.com ". Hunan TV in China has aired throughout China a full hour documentary about Neko and our original songs "Wanton Desires" and "the Yao Song".............To launch this My Space page, I have currently posted some songs I've written (or co-written) for the featured vocalists. There are two featuring Neko Zhang, and another two by Shannon Marie whose full CD is nearing completion. Also included is a song named "Candy" which I wrote for vocalist Jane Burbank's CD entitled "My Romance". Although most of the songs on Jane's CD were rew readings of timeless classics, we did include two of my original songs on the CD. There will be many more to come as I begin rotating these postings, so do check back in from time to time.A full listing of my credits and studio details are posted online at:marcreation.com/martist/db
