Sensei were formed in March 1991, by lead singer Mike Hopkins. Mike had previously fronted the hard hitting rock band Snakebite and Full Moon who were signed to Voices Of Wonder records. Taking with him the Full Moon lead guitarist Ray Burrell, they were joined on bass by Steve Arnold, drummer Colin ' Mackie' McEvoy and second lead guitarist Kevin Pope.
Sensei's first gig was at Freeways in June of that year, with the first four tracks recorded at Joes Garage Clapham, July 1991. The following years saw many frequent rehearsals to the much loved Terminal Studios!
The band hit the rock circuit in London and on many ocassions played some prestigious gigs at the Marquee and the London Astoria , which received rave reviews in 'Kerrang Magazine' and was likened by 'RAW' magazine to any top band playing at Wembley!
A trip to Europe followed with a lively booking at a Biker Festival in Belguim. On their return to London, Sensei set about recording their growing list of original material.
As the contribution of the two original guitarists came to an end, an audition was held and they were replaced by a single guitarist, Eddie McCarten. Eddie had played in his native Glasgow and had done a lot of London session work. Proving to be an outstanding musician, his playing style, musical flexibility and improvisational skills are second to none - Hendrix and Page eat your heart out!!
The band continues to play their unique style of British Rock playing mostly in London. They have extended their repetoire to incorporate covers from a very wide range of different musical styles, but also still have a large collection of original material written by members of the band.
Continuing to play the London circuit to date, Sensei has now welcomed Ray Burrel to play lead guitar, Riz playing bass and Mark on rhythm guitar. With a renewed sense of enthusiasm and drive in the band Sensei are as keen as ever to entertain and wow audiences with their hard rockin' style.
