Box Frrresh! IMPORTANT UPDATE!

About Me

Box Frrresh! is a promotion collective putting on new and upcoming bands from planet earth at the Orange Box, Yeovil.
Here's what's up. Box Frrresh has been trying to put together exciting, well thought out shows covering all types of alternative music, making them affordable and enjoyable for everyone, and giving good, hardworking, new bands a chance to play alongside established acts, to an appreciative Yeovil crowd on a Friday night for about 5 months now. Sure it was never going to be easy, but despite lots of hard work and some awesome nights we're still struggling to get 30 people together who want to come out, get involved and watch great bands.
We really hate the kind of nights where you have to bring a certain number of people along to get paid, even worse are the nights where you have to pay to play. It seems to us that too many local bands and bands in general are all too keen to complain about not getting gigs or about their hometown, and not bothered about supporting the great music venue they have or being part of a music community. If you're not supporting other musicians by going to watch them, why should they support you? Etc.
The situation we have is hundreds of bands who want to play and not enough people who want to come out and watch for whatever reason. This leaves us unable to keep putting on shows once a week, possibly even once a month, and therefore with far fewer available slots for touring bands.
With this in mind, we're no longer accepting Myspace messages or Blog entries from bands. All bands will be chosen by us based on our love of the music.
Anyone who came to see our last show, Attack! Vipers! the other day at the Orange Box will appreciate that when people come together to watch great bands, without big egos, bad attitudes, fashion victims and necessary competition, you can have a really awesome night in a friendly, idiot-free atmosphere. It is possible, and that is how we'll try to work from now on.
For what it's worth, our advice to all bands who want to get gigs outside of their hometown is to practise, write new songs, talk to people, make friends in other bands and just be an amazing group. We don't mean convince yourself you're the best by getting a billion fans on Myspace and telling them all how great you are (I swear the next time someone emails us saying they have a "huge following" in Yeovil I'll flip out). Rather, if you're good, people will find you. Good things don't stay secret long. If you're only in it for a few months to pick up chicks or get famous quick, then you suck. Likewise if you book a gig then can't be bothered to show because you'd have to drive 200 miles to a shitty town in Somerset, then fine, stay in your big city and continue to pickle among the sea of other rubbish bands 'til you quit for "artistic differences" (i.e. You don't know which trend to follow next), we've no time for you.
"It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll".
Do keep checking back for show updates. Tickets for all our shows are available from the Orange Box page at Ticketweb.co.uk or in person from Acorn Records, Glovers Walk, Yeovil.
