The Dust Up

sic transit gloria mundi

About Me

Like most good stories, this one starts with two people meeting at a party in a drunken stupor. Nafeez and Daniel started talking about music (okay, Naf talked a mile a minute about the "theater of rock" and Dan sort of nodded along while looking for the exit). Dan was a bass player; Naf was excited. He weaseled Dan's number from him. After much sweet talking, Dan agreed to write some music and they decided to start a band with both of them on guitar. So they talked about it. For 2 years. Then one fine summer's day, Naf is standing on the roof of a crumbling walkup in Williamsburg hanging with the guys from Dealer and Daphne. They are talking about a show. Naf has already mentioned the "band". His friends (being total sweethearts) ask him to play the show. In a month. Being a bit less than sober, he says sure, and even gives them a name - The Dust Up.
He calls Dan that afternoon to break the news.
And to talk about finding a drummer and bass player.
And about maybe writing some tunes.
Dan is not happy.
Somehow they manage to beg, borrow and steal a bass player from Daphne, or at least are able to con Tim Mercer (who isn't that hard to con, really), Daphne's singer/guitarist to play a one-off (that amazingly enough continues to this day). Dan leans on his old friend Paul Andrew, who agrees to temporarily sit in behind the drums.
Oh yeah, they are still feverishly trying to write some songs.
To put a stop to this rapidly bloating story, the show went off amazingly (considering) and The Dust Up was birthed. The songs that are up on this page are the products of those first feverish weeks and will soon be replaced by a brand spanking new recording of songs that were not written in the car on the way to rehearsal. We hope you come back to check them out. We believe that they will be worth the wait.
