September 2008
For REBEL LIVES!, the last eight years have seen alot of "ups" and "downs". Several more "downs" in the most recent of life; yet the music still lives on to tell the tale.
"The music I write surrounds my life." Eric Gillespie(Guitar/ Vocals) begins, as the only man standing in a sea of history in music. "This music is written to shock, and create question in the minds of everyone who listens to it. It isn't some petty little band wishing something or someone would come along and swoop us up to the big times; we've had those offers... we've shrugged them off. And it was never due to our lack of judgment, or our lack of life boiling up inside, it was simply that we weren't about to rush into something that wasn't feeling right".
After five years of studying the Grunge, Pop, and Scream High School Scene's, the first of the prequel bands to REBEL LIVES! had ended. "CountMeIn (www.myspace.com/countmeinmusic) lead some of the funnest times of my life... when i think back to the touring and the distanced shows, late-night recording, and rocking out with our best friends bands, all I think about is the good stuff. But the times changed, and everyone safely moved onto something new, with no hard feelings. We'll always remember those times as some of the best, and the music continuously progressed into REAL MUSIC." Laughs Eric while he finishes flipping through the pages of a George Stroumboulopoulos article in CHILL magazine.
"Ya know, according to Strombo (one of the most influential Canadians of our time) it's the Music you listen to that drops you into you're own circle of friends. And I completely believe in that, I meet people all over the place now when I'm playing music, and the style of music has definitely changed, so the atmosphere and the people change too, I love em all, they all rock out hard... but I'll always listen to bands like Saves The Day, Pennywise, Larger Than Life, NOFX, The Sex Pistols etc... those are the bands that I love with a passion, those are the bands that could change my day from HORRIBLE to FANFU*&INTASTIC." Eric sort of gives a bit of a grin, before he leans back in his chair and starts up again...
"After CountMeIn ended, I turned the tables to my Acoustic Guitar, and Keyboard... I wanted to focus on the actual music of things, not just all the sounds that we could possible slam into one record. So I started writing, started using lots of different effects... I started dropping alot of cash into my Music Equipment. And it started paying off. The songs started sounding like something I would be proud to show anyone, not just one specific genre... and that's what makes a band you'll always want to listen to... not just my certain group of friends."
"The Jude Majesty (www.thejudemajesty.com) started up a few months into my personal writing after CountMeIn ended. Aaron Patterson jumped on board and we started finishing up an album, prior to him jumping on board I had already been working on quite a few songs, so we got off to a pretty quick start! Those were wicked songs, I still have them pumping through my speakers all the time; regular rotation". Pause for a drink. Un-pause from Drink.
"Aaron and I had a bit of a falling out to tell you the truth, havent spoken much to eachother since, but I guess shit just hits the fan sometimes. People do shit they didnt really realize was about to make such a difference, in this case both sides did a little bit of a Bomb Shell Drop... There. The end of The Jude Majesty has been revealed... The rest is for Aaron and I to work out one day, so... much appreciation for everyone to leave us to that." Again a smile creeps over Eric's face, and he takes another drink.
"REBEL LIVES! is the Master-Band. It's taken a long time for me to have this much control over which direction I can send this band. I want a band that writes every single genre we feel intrigues us! Nothing is closed minded in this band. Any instrument, and any style is open to the writing process of REBEL LIVES!.
In the end, I want this to be a band that Millions can come together and love. It's something that I promise you, and everysingle person to you're immediate/ and NON-immediate right of you to love going out and partying to, or just living with in your ears".
A slight look of rememberance falls over Eric's face... "If you notice a song or two on our roster that you may have heard The Jude Majesty play, those songs were completely written by myself. I respect everything that someone has written, and put an effort into writing! So enjoy these songs you may recognize as REBEL LIVES! songs now! We'll have tons of fun with them yet!"
REBEL LIVES! is writing their First Album as you read this. Recording is to begin sometime during Fall/ Winter 2008/09.
