"His brow is wet with honest sweat he earns whatever he can, And looks the whole world in the face, For he owes not any man.â€/Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The Black Report speaks honestly. Currently The BR is a’ singer/song writer from Leicester’ that "looks the whole world in the face" and then sings about it. Pretentious musical attitudes are replaced with just a brutal confidence in the music. The songs speak about reality in everyday life, allowing anyone to appreciate the meanings.
From “scraping the last pints to end the night†and “waiting on edge for the fight†to being “bare as in mindâ€. The Black Report speaks to people on the level. Be it drinking down your local, having a ‘big-un’ with the boys or deeper thoughts on relationships, politics and life, the music offers it all.
With Ashcroft-esque melodies, dark Joy Division tones and the pumped drive of Oasis. The sound offers something different. Catchy melodies are mixed with strong and gritty vocals, tuneful acoustic chords are given a driving, pounding rhythm and the volume levels just seem to be louder than everything else. You are given no choice but to listen; “you better listen man, cause your bodies aging but you still got the world to seeâ€/Stonesthrow
Johnny Cash carried the darkness on his back; until things were brighter, he was the “man in blackâ€. In vain of Cash and others The Black Report carries this seriousness. The combination of wearing black to gigs and the quality of the tunes paint a powerful picture.
With past tours with Leicester lads The Displacements, and constant UK dates, The Black Report is continuing to plough through the Leicester and UK music scene. Yet with progress of a whole band outfit forming, next year should hold bigger and brighter options for The Black Report. With a solo voice and guitar already creating such a powerful and driving sound, the creations of the whole band will be something to look forward to.
The Black Report will indeed “move anything that you likeâ€/Stonesthrow
