Slithering out of the gutters of Santa Cruz, California, come four incredibly talented musicians determined to revolutionize the all-but-forgotten genre of ’old-school’ classic metal.
’The Boys’, (Binge Daniels on vocals, Jonny Prynce on guitar, Tyno Vincent on bass, and Spanky Savage on drums) make no apologies for their own original take on revitalizing and evolving an older era. They revel in it and are determined to shove it down the throats of every critic who dares to argue. Citing influences such as: Motley Crue, Poison, Guns ’N Roses, and L.A. Guns, among others; Dirty Penny has not only embraced and absorbed the glittery-glam, sex-fueled, leather-encased sound and image, they’ve shoved it down their pants, thrown it against the wall a few times, and tattooed it into their souls.
Their sound is sheer penetration and shivering energy; their live performances explode with screaming guitars, thumping bass and drums, and powerhouse vocals. They’ve thrilled audiences in and around the California Bay Area , both North and South, for several years; paying their dues in every respectable and dive bar in the Western United States, as well as playing with music legends such as Foreigner, La guns, Jetboy, RATT, Poison, just to name a few.
After Playing the main stage at Rocklama, on July 13th 2007, ( by winning an online battle of the bands courtesy of jpotmusic.com, beating out 200 other participating bands some of which included national acts such Mandy Lion’s WWIII ), Dirty Penny caught the attention of fans and media alike.
"Dirty Penny, from Santa Cruz, California, hit the stage with both hands on the wheel and the pedal to the floor. New to the hair/glam scene, but looking like Motley Crue from 1982, they played a roaring set of originals that had the crowd on their feet and their fists in the air. Songs like "Midnight Ride," "Running Wild" and "Vendetta" had the crowd begging for more as their set came to an end. Pick up their debut release, "Take it Sleazy" and get an instant flashback to 1982." All access Magazine , September 2007
"these guys- all ages 24-25 - look exactly like Motley Crue circa 1985, had Motley Crue’s voraciously abused substance been wheat grass." Spin Magazine , September 2007 ( along with interviews and a review of the band’s journey at Rocklahoma and a full page photo )
Entering Rocklahoma with already a huge myspace fan-base of 24,000, Dirty Penny knew this festival would ad a few more fans to their portfolio. Within the 2 weeks following the their debut at Rocklahoma, Dirty Penny added 8,000 new fans from all across the globe to their myspace and sold over 4 thousand copies of their self-titled debut CD, Take It Sleazy.
Dirty Penny is raw, youthful, electric, and most importantly, an ingenious new take on an incredibly classic period in rock history. This band exhibits the excitement and energy lacking in many bands currently recording and touring today.
