Dimas Sanchez began playing percussion and drum set in Puerto Rico, where he was born. He started playing professionally at age 14 playing salsa music. Later on, other influences like Jazz, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican folkloric music started shaping his musical taste.



He has studied with Tony Sanchez , Angel "Cachete" Maldonado , Keith Copeland , and Ignacio Berroa. Some of the instruments played by him are drum set, shekere, bongo, timbales, congas, bomba barrels, djembe, plena pandereros and other world percussion.
His musical experience includes styles such as: Jazz, Bomba, Plena, Salsa, Samba, Bossa Nova, Blues, Rock, and Latin Jazz. In Puerto Rico, he has performed with luminaries David Sanchez, John Benitez, Richie Flores, Juancito Torres, Angel “Cachete” Maldonado Hector Veneros, Anthony Carrillo, Edsel Gomez, Jimmy Rivera, Rolando Morales (percussionist for The Lion King), and artists Lunna, Marisol Calero, Olga Guillot, and Lucecita Benitez, he also he had the opportunity to perform with the “Taller de Jazz Don Pedro” where he learned to play Jazz. In 1985 he began playing with the premier bomba and plena group "La Familia Cepeda". With the Cepeda ensemble he learned the best of Afro-Puerto Rican rhythms, and travelled to Spain, New York, and Guadelupe where the ensemble shared the stage with Irakere and Ray Barretto.
Among the international festivals in which Dimas has performed are: Mundo Latino (Paris), SunFest (West Palm Beach), Clearwater Jazz Festival, Toros y Salsa (Dax, France), Folkloric Festival (Palma de Mallorca), Cultural Festival in Guadelupe among others.
He also participated as a Drum Clinician and Pearl Drums Artist in the Contemporary Drums and Percussion Summer Camp 2008 in UCF with Opus Mundi.
He came to Florida in 1992 and immediately began working with rock, blues, jazz and Latin music bands as a percussionist/drummer. Some of the artists with whom he has worked in Florida are Adalberto Santiago, Hector Casanova, Giovanni Hidalgo, Ismael Miranda, Marvin Santiago, Sophy, Akangana, Rico Monaco & Sol Sons, The Xavier Cougat Orchestra, Iba A Se and now Opus Mundi.
