About Me

Jack Caldwells music is like a ride through New England. Green pastures and dirt roads that lead to urban streets and large cities. The influence of all these things can be heard in his musicWith the release of his critically acclaimed As Sweet As I Remember You in 2004 Jack Caldwell stepped squarely back into the spotlight. Now with the release of his newest CD The Edge of the Beginning, (Free Agent Records, 2006) he shows he intends on staying there. The new CD is yet another giant step forward for the artist who started his career in the late seventies playing in folk clubs and the local concert scene with already established fellow folkies Jonathan Edwards, Livingston Taylor and Aztec Two Step.Jack released his first album in the early eighties, and although well received, company support was non existent. He quickly gave up trying to promote an album that no-one could find and went into the studio to record a self-produced follow up project titled Straight Lines and Detours.Performing with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Steve Forbert, and playing a New England tour with emerging folk star Suzanne Vega, Caldwell got a taste of the road.Still trying to establish a career of his own, he came under the tutelage of music business great Nat Weiss who had worked with The Beatles, Miles Davis, James Taylor and as President of Nemperor Records, signed Steve Forbert to his first recording contract. I remember walking down the hall to Nats office and the walls were lined with James Taylors gold records. It was a very exciting time. After spending time on the road and enjoying his youth, Jack decided to settle down and concentrate on writing. In 1995 after a few self-produced demo projects Caldwell teamed up with musician/producer Collin Tilton. Tilton, who had worked with Van Morrison, Etta James and Clarence Clemens, among others, was the perfect fit for Caldwells music. The CD Luck was released in 1996 with most of the guitar work being handled by CPRs (Crosby, Pevar and Raymond) Jeff Pevar. In 2000 Jack released Living through It All, a collection of mostly acoustic songs recorded in his home studio with friends. In 2001 Jack went back into the studio with Collin Tilton to begin recording what became As Sweet as I Remember You. Released to rave reviews in December of 2004, Jack Caldwell was back in the spotlight.Instead of touring in support of As Sweet as I Remember You, Jack decided to host a local television show spotlighting local musicians, writers and artists. I loved hosting this show. I got to talk to all these different writers, artists and musicians about their creative process, their lives and their art. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion we all go through the same process. I once asked artist Ken Davies, Do artists see things differently? to which he replied with a smile, No, but they think they do. Things became so much clearer to me at that moment. With the releases of his newest project The Edge of the Beginning Jack continues his exposés of relationships, life and loss, and celebrates the strength of the human spirit that keeps us going... -- -- CDBABY LINK for JACK CALDWELL: The Edge of the Beginning --
