This company was founded by its owners Big Apple “IMC” and Nona Thomas which are a recording artist and a graphic designer with the common understanding that this business is now being run by people who want to line their pockets, instead of funding the public with the true talent. With Big Apple “IMC” in association with Soundbar recording set to release his debut album “Rotten to the Core” and Nona consistently being innovative in creating new ways for community empowerment and youth development this team was brought together to become a powerful force united and ready for any task placed in front of them. The most recent project is in connection with the Hip Hop’s Bible, the legendary Source Magazine. They have been contracted to promote the “Spit 16” on line showcase. This is where the Source gives back to the same community that has supported them for so long, by allowing them to showcase their talent on line and have the opportunity to have their name and face placed in the magazine. CheckMate New York is fully aware of the hardships entertainers have to bear just to be heard, so they also produce verbal assault rap battles, DJ scratch-offs, and other various under ground related events that have artist best interest in mind. “It is not only about the label executives listening, but we need to be fans of ourselves once again”Networking is key, so CheckMate New York has also aligned themselves with other companies that have the hip hop community’s best interest at heart. Soundbar recordings is a record label based out of Brooklyn, New York that has created an who’s fu!@kin with us campaign. This is a cleverly done movement designed to promote HIV awareness by handing out condoms with aids related facts at every urban event. Thisrespekwear is a clothing company based out of Staten Island, New York, which designs are made for the sole purpose of expression. Their clothing says what you want to say but are too scared to say. CheckMate’s own nigger no more campaign is created simply to inform the younger generation on the root of the word nigger, and to shed light on the most common talked about, yet most misunderstood subject.
