Murkhouse Recordings is a young record label currently situated in the sleepy hamlet of Sidney, Ohio. Not so much dedicated to releasing any particular style of music as we are dedicated to a particular feeling of music, our focus is on the atmospheric, creative, artistic, and unique.

MHR000EP Antilles/Trifle Tower - split 7"... Screamo without the emo! We assisted in the release of this fantastic split between two old-school screamo bands in the vein of such greats as Pg. 99 and City of Caterpillar. This is a little different from what might be expected of us, but is no less worthy of the Murkhouse name! Antilles have a jagged and damaged sound with vicious vocals, aggressive drumming, and jangly guitar playing with a subtle, almost jazzy vibe at times. On the other side, Trifle Tower assault the listener with a blast of lo-fi angst and fury. Strong dynamics and layered melodies give off the impression of an almost black metal approach to songwriting. Each side can be heard in the player on our page. Limited to 500 copies!
North America: $6
Rest of World: $7.50
Future Releases:
MHR001CD Gathiens - Nesh CD... Heavy, psychedelic, atmospheric instrumental rock music. Originally planned to be released by Battle Kommand Records, the band and label parted ways prematurely before this was released, so we have stepped in to make this our first release. Compared to the likes of Boris, Pelican, and Shora, among others, but this is NOT just another post-metal album. Just listen to the sample on our page! *Coming October 2008*
MHR002CD Vaka - Kappa Delta Phi CD... Epic and heavy doom rock with a slightly progressive twist from Sweden. With inventive drumming and heavy use of piano, this, like our Gathiens release, is a fresh take on the post-metal style that has quickly become overrun by Isis and Pelican clones. On this album, mainman Karl Daniel Liden is joined by an array of guest musicians from around the world to make this a highly collaborative venture. Mastered by John Golden, who has done mastering for such bands as the Melvins, Neurosis, Weedeater, and Primus. This should appeal to fans of bands like Isis, Mare, Opeth, and even Nine Inch Nails. *Coming November 2008*
MHR00?LP Elegi - Sistereis 2xLP... We will be liscencing this incredible album from Miasmah Recordings to release on vinyl. Minimalist expressions of a Norwegian shipwreck diver, this will be remastered for maximum depth on the vinyl format. Though it's too early to give details, trust us that the packaging of this will be amazing! *Coming Winter 2008/2009*
MHR00?LP Black Math Horseman - Wyllt LP... We're extremely proud to announce the release of the vinyl version of this band's debut! Five songs of epic, heavy, esoteric, and apocalyptic doom rock - this should appeal to fans of Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Tool, Grails, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Om, and the like. Heavy, melodic, and tastefully hooky guitar playing is coupled with mammoth drumming while otherworldy female vocals call to you through a thick blanket of mist. Black Math Horseman do a superb job balancing the atmospheric with the heavy elements and leave plenty of room for some seriously rocking moments. At times, it could be said that this sounds like an ancient Pagan ritual being heard drifting up from a cavern miles below the earth. Recorded and produced by Scott Reeder of Kyuss and mastered specifically for vinyl by John Golden, who also mastered our Vaka release as well as albums for the Melvins, Weedeater, Primus, Neurosis, etc. Sound clips coming soon! *No release date yet.*
MHR00?LP Selaxon Lutberg + Subinterior - The Meeting 2xLP... A stunning 4-part collaborative series between these 2 Italian ambient artists, released together in one glorious 2xLP set! Originally released on Selaxon Lutberg's own label, Cold Current Productions, each part is dedicated to a season and was released separately on 3" CD-R in an edition of only 50 copies! We just thought this was too good to be heard by so few people and limited to the CD-R format, though. Beginning with Winter Meeting and going through the seasons in order to end with Fall Meeting, each part will be given one side of 12" vinyl. The mood on each part is slightly different, reflective of the mood or feel of its respective season, ranging from cold, icy textures to warm, soothing ambience. Fall Meeting is actually not released yet and is still in the recording stages, so after it is completed and released, we can begin work on this very special release. *Coming Spring 2009*
MHR00?LP Library Tapes - A Summer Beneath the Trees LP... David Wenngren has been composing minimalist/modern classical music under the Library Tapes moniker since 2005, sometimes working alone and sometimes accompanied by others. On A Summer Beneath the Trees, perhaps his best offering yet, Wenngren is joined by the talented misters Danny Norbury and Peter Broderick to create a beautiful, lush album full of depth and mood. Not as sad and lonely-sounding as previous releases, this still has occasional dark moments but pairs them jubilant and uplifting parts for an overall more balanced and optimistic-sounding record. Delicate piano passages, field recordings, and subtle noise elements are wed with lush strings, guitar, and occasional banjo and horn parts. Absolutely gorgeous. CD version to be released October 6th by Make Mine Music. Soundclip coming soon! *Coming Summer 2009*
More being planned all the time, to be announced when there is more information. Keep checking back for updates!
