Joseph Michael Langston, Jocef, born on July 5 in Columbus, Ohio, began singing at the young age of 15 at the church Diamond Hill Cathedral. There his father, Larry Langston is one of the presiding pastors and music director. His mother, Greta Langston sings in the choir. Influenced by his father’s professional jazz career, Joseph began to pursue a career in music himself. In the year 2000, after meeting the lead singer C.R. Pendleton of 40DT, Jocef recorded his first demo “What’s Goin’.
Working to perfect his craft, the young singer took time off to pursue other interests. While working with producer Matthew Sky Osborne, he was offered a 12-14 month deal with Interscope Records, but due to personal and religious beliefs it was turned down. However, years later, after gaining maturity and life experience, Joseph began putting his heart into working on his project Taken Apart. The year following, Joseph flew out to meet and work with 2- time Grammy and 3-time Dove award winner Quinlan (Stacie Orrico, Zoe Girl, Rebecca St. James, Monday Morning). He came back to Ohio with much modivation and assembled a band tourworthy (which included producer, songwriter and musician Edward "one take"Avery to play drums). He then traveled and performed with his band Improv. Jocef continued to work toward his musical goals by teaming with Tomei to produce the track “J.O.C.E.F.†A year later, he met with C.R. Pendleton again to record “Don’t Ride It†which was released in 2007. Some of Jocef’s performances include opening for John Reuben, 40 DT, Cross Culture, the Truth, and rocking the stage with Pharrell Williams. There were rumors of signing with christian labels-but it just wasn't his time and the proper deal never presented itself.
Laying aside music what seemed like for good, Jocef chose to serve his country by joining the Air Force in March of 2006, gaining knowledge and discipline. Unable to leave the game alone, he's back one last time with something new to say in efforts to again touch the lives of everyone.
Jocef's most recent project is the music video for “Sheeba†which is to be shot by writer/producer/ director Robert Kurtzman (Dusk til Dawn, Wishmaster). Kurtsman also designed the graphic artwork for Taken Apart.
