About Me

LA VOZ de Berkeley is dedicated to voicing the opinions, findings, theories and views of those under-represented in mainstream media. As Xican@/Latin@ students, we want to address issues that affect us, our communities, other people of color, and traditionally dienfranchised people in general. To help reach the extended community, we translate all of our articles into Spanish. Articles and artwork cover politics, art and culture. These reflect the diverse opinions of our own writers and artists. The newspaper is targeted for Xican@/Latin@ students but welcomes all readers whether they be UC Berkeley students or members of surrounding communities. As Xican@/Latin@ students, we take the responsibility of questioning and challenging mis-constructed images that permeate mainstream media within and beyond campus. LA VOZ de Berkeley provides our communities with a realistic documentation of the socio-political forces that affect their lives. I'd like to meet:

La Voz de Berkeley would be honored to create a manifestation of our solidarity with people in struggle, specifically by networking with students, youth groups, community organizations, non-profits, student groups and all individuals that are fighting against racism, sexism, heteronormativity, imperialism, colonization and oppression. We seek to establish long-term connections with organizers all over Califaztlan, the Southwest, and the Americas who understand the need to make our own voice in the media, one not controlled by dominant ideologies, greed, or funders. La Voz de Berkeley also opens their space to the creativity of la gente: all works by poets, graphic artists, and writers are more than welcome. La Voz is also dedicated to sending our published issues to the brothas and sistas that are locked up in the Prison Industrial Complex, and want to connect to the struggle for justice, dignity and freedom that continues outside of the chains and bars. If you or your organization would like to contribute to La Voz de Berkeley, or would like to have issues mailed to you, please contact us via email at [email protected]
