About Me

I started the "Junix" project band in 1995 and put together some of my more mellow compositions that were not suitable for my other band "Santelmo". So, together with Jobert Chy on drums and Kaka Quisumbing on bass guitar, both of which were also apart of Santelmo, we cooked up the idea of creating a funky, upbeat and more mainstream type outfit. We simply called ourselves Junix.Later on, we wanted to add more flavor to our style of music, so we decided to get Frazier Sigua to play piano and synth for us. After a couple of months, Frazier had to go abroad for work. He was replaced by my cousin, Jonathan Ilagan, a piano genius and then was at that time a conservatory student at the U.P. College of Music. We also incorporated other talents from the band, "Superfly" and did some gigs as well as a live performance in the ABC 5 TV sitcom show, Tropang Trumpo, in 1997.We did some performances in U.P. Diliman, particularly in the F.A. dept. and a couple of club shows through out 1996 and 1997. In 1998, my other band, Santelmo, disbanded, each to pursue other careers in other fields. Thus ending my live gigs with "Junix", too.In 2000, my writings became a bit more laid back with less transitions and more whole notes (hahaha) and the ever popular 12 bar blues. I was F*CKN depressed and a total wreck, so to speak... In September of that year, I hooked up with some old friends who were having an group exhibit of their works/paintings and wanted me to play on the opening night. At first, I really didn't want to but after a while, I said what the heck, I wanted to get over the "self pity sh*t mode" anyway and thus began my solo acoustic performances.I still continue to make music today and though it may sound so typical but it has always been my passion to make and play music. As the saying goes, "Once in, never out." ...I don't know where that came from. Peace!
